Probate Valuations

The overriding expectation of all executors is that they discharge their duties as the law requires and as faithfully to the deceased's intentions as possible.

A  promptly produced professional Probate Valuation, which details all items belonging to the deceased from furniture to ornamental items, jewellery, etc., and gives their individual values, as well a certificate for the overall value, can be of significant help in this process.

Initially, it enables the law to be satisfied.  The value of the whole estate will determine whether Inheritance Tax is payable or not.

A detailed  Probate Valuation is also a useful tool for discussion within the family as to what will happen to any items that are not specifically bequeathed.  Family members can be assured that a fair distribution of goods has taken place.

Alternatively, the residual estate may be required to be sold and the Probate Valuation can provide a good basis for negotiation if selling by private treaty or serve as a guide to the likely auction value.

Our service does not end with the valuation.   If requested to, we are happy to oversee the safe delivery of bequeathed items, the removal of any items required to be sold and their consignment either to an auction house or to a specialist dealer.    Each item is carefully placed according to where it will achieve the best price in order to optimise the accrued benefit to the estate.

We will also undertake the complete clearance and cleaning of the deceased’s property ready for it to be placed on the market.

A prompt, efficient and compassionate service for executors
